TALLAHASSEE (FLV) – Florida Department of Children and Families Secretary Shevaun Harris will continue for Gov. Ron DeSantis’ second term as governor.

Harris was appointed in October of 2020: “Shevaun has over a decade’s worth of experience at AHCA and has held several leadership positions within the agency. Notably, Shevaun was lead negotiator for the largest managed care contract in the state’s history and most recently has been the agency’s lead on implementation of the Canadian Prescription Drug Importation Program.”

DeSantis gave high praise to the secretary on social media. “Shevaun Harris has done an excellent job serving Florida’s families as the Secretary of @MyFLFamilies. She has fostered innovation and ensured accountability,” he said. “I look forward to continuing working with her this upcoming term.”

Harris thanked the governor for keeping her on as secretary of the Department.

“Thank you @GovRonDeSantis! I am honored to continue to serve in your administration. With your bold leadership, we have done amazing things for children and families in our great State. Looking forward to the great things that are yet to come!” she said.

In a video, Harris is highlighted accompanying DeSantis at various pro-family program events, like aiming to end drug addiction, providing tax relief for families, and helping students excel in education.

Harris served as the Agency for Health Care Administration’s Assistant Deputy Secretary for Medicaid Policy & Quality since February 2017 before becoming secretary. Previously, she served in the AHCA for over ten years.

The secretary has a Masters of Business Administration from Quinnipiac University, a Master of Social Work from Florida State University, and received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Minor in Business from FSU.
