TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (FLV) – Gov. Ron DeSantis’ 2024 campaign press secretary refuted any notion based on anonymous sources that the team planned, then canceled, a Dunedin, Florida White House bid launch – the governor’s home town.

“Gov. Ron DeSantis will no longer be holding a launch rally in his hometown of Dunedin, Fla. next week, sources familiar with the planning as of now tell me,” CBS reporter Aaron Navarro said.

There was never any public or privately confirmed announcement from the DeSantis campaign affirming a Dunedin launch.

“Looks like you leaned a bit too hard on ‘anonymous sources,'” press secretary Bryan Griffin said. “There was never an in-person launch planned. If you want accurate updates, make sure they’re coming from us.”

DeSantis will announce his bid on Twitter 6 p.m. EST Wednesday evening with Elon Musk, a novel and unconventional manner of kicking off an Oval Office pursuit that drew ire from some members of the media.

“I know the MSM hates it, but they can participate by tuning into tonight’s Spaces just like everyone else,” Griffin continued.

DeSantis has officially filed his bid for president in 2024 Wednesday afternoon with the Federal Election Commission.

His organization, “Ron DeSantis for President,” became official on May 24, 2023 at 2:24 p.m. EST.

The governor is holding a Miami event where he is expected to pitch his case for becoming the Republican nominee in 2024 to face off against former President Donald Trump and then, most likely, President Joe Biden.
