WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (FLV) – Former President Donald Trump fired off anti-Gov. Ron DeSantis ads after the 2024 GOP primary was blown open by the Florida governor’s Twitter announcement.

Trump famously endorsed DeSantis in his 2018 bid for governor, which helped put him over the top of the GOP gubernatorial primary field.

“Ron DeSantis was struggling struggling big time in his primary race for governor of Florida,” the ad said. “He was losing by a staggering 17 points.”

“Then, DeSantis was saved by the endorsement of President Trump,” it continued. “Trump’s support was so powerful, just days after the endorsement, DeSantis took a commanding lead that propelled him to being elected governor.”

“I’d like to thank our president for standing by me when it wasn’t necessarily the right thing to do,” the governor is heard saying.

“You’re welcome, Ron,” the ad narrator responded.

Trump’s campaign then resurfaced a gubernatorial ad from 2018 when DeSantis was pretending to read children’s books to his young ones: “Make America Great Again! Build the wall! Then Mr. Trump said, ‘You’re fired!’ I love that part.”

The Trump campaign also released a “positive ad,” arguing there’s only one “Donald Trump.”

“Washington establishment politicians like to talk about how they can be just like Donald Trump,” the narrator said, pointing to there being no new wars under Trump, appointing Supreme Court justices who eventually overturned Roe v. Wade, among other accomplishments.

“There’s only one – starting day one – who can Make America Great Again.”

Trump and his team also mocked the governor’s Twitter campaign launch Wednesday evening, which began with around 20 minutes of glitches and crashing because of the hundreds of thousands of users attempting to listen in.
