WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Former President Donald Trump said that the Republican Party will not be blamed for the potential federal shutdown, and called out the party’s leadership for not putting up a fight.

“The Republicans lost big on debt ceiling, got NOTHING, and now are worried that they will be BLAMED for the budget shut down,” he said on social media. “WRONG! Whoever is president will be blamed, in this case, crooked (as hell!) Joe Biden!”

President Joe Biden has attacked members of the GOP and accused them of causing the possible shutdown as Congress is divided on budget negotiations.

Biden explained how he previously came to an agreement with congressional Republican leadership in spending.

“Now, a small group of extreme Republicans don’t want to live up to the deal,” he said. “So now everyone in America could be forced to pay the price.”

Trump said the country was being systematically destroyed by the “radical left Marxists.”

“Close the border, stop the weaponization of ‘justice,’ and end election interference,” he added.

Trump continued, urging the GOP fight harder on spending deals. He called out Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-K.Y., as an example of why the party has recently failed.

“Are you listening Mitch McConnell, the weakest, dumbest, and most conflicted ‘leader’ in U.S. Senate history?” he asked.

The former president exclaimed that McConnell has already given the Democratic Party “everything” they could have wanted, and that it was time for “new” and “real Republican leadership” in the Senate.

Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., echoed Trump’s messaging on social media as well.

“Trump agrees with me,” he said. “Not @SpeakerMcCarthy.”

“No Continuing Resolution. Break the fever. Hold the line,” he added.

Gaetz has consistently opposed congressional leadership’s attempts to pass a continuing resolution that keeps federal spending the same as the 2022 fiscal year, expanding it only for inflation and cost of living.

The Panhandle representative has threatened to introduce a motion to vacate for House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., if he did not address the concerns that Gaetz and the congressional Freedom Caucus had.
