WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Former President Donald Trump criticized President Joe Biden’s electric vehicle mandate as Biden joined United Auto Workers strikers in Michigan Tuesday.

United Auto Workers have reportedly been on strike for nearly two weeks when Biden showed up at the picket line.

“You deserve the significant raise you need,” Biden said.

However, Trump pointed to Biden’s “draconian” electric vehicle mandate, which he said would “annihilate” the U.S. auto industry and cost thousands of jobs.

The Biden administration’s goal is to have 50% of all new vehicle sales be electric by 2030.

“Cars and truck manufacturers have made clear that the future of transportation is electric,” the White House stated in a fact sheet. “The market is moving.”

The administration unveiled in April new vehicle pollution standards in an effort to push Americans to be electric vehicles. The Environmental Protection Agency’s new standards would reportedly impact car model years 2027 through 2030.

“The only thing Biden could say today that would help the striking autoworkers is to announce the immediate termination of his ridiculous mandate,” Trump said on social media.

The former president called Biden’s Tuesday actions a way to “distract American labor” from the president’s “betrayal.”

“With Biden, it doesn’t matter what hourly wages they get, in three years there will be no autoworker jobs as they will all come out of China and other countries,” Trump said. “With me, there will be jobs and wages like you’ve never seen before.”

In July, a group of U.S. House Republicans announced they would propose legislation to prohibit the Biden administration from implementing proposed emission standards.
