TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – A new poll shows Gov. Ron DeSantis overcoming California Gov. Gavin Newsom in a hypothetical presidential election.

According to research by the Daily Mail, DeSantis would win 43% of the popular vote, while Newsom would amount to approximately 39%.

The polling also found that 47% of Americans would prefer to live in DeSantis’ Florida, compared to 40% who would rather be in Newsom’s California.

The two governors plan to participate in a “red state vs. blue state debate” hosted by Fox News on Nov. 30 in Georgia.

Newsom challenged DeSantis to participate in a debate in June. The Florida governor later responded by expressing that he would “absolutely” do it.

“I’m game. Let’s get it done. Just tell me when and where – we’ll do it,” he said.

On a Fox News interview with Sean Hannity, Newsom enthusiastically favored the debate.

”I’m all in. Count on it,” Newsom said.

“You would do a two-hour debate with Ron DeSantis?” Hannity replied.

“Make it three. I would do it one day’s notice with no notes. I look forward to that,” Newsom said.

After Fox released the debate news, Newsom attacked DeSantis for taking the “bait” and actually going through with the event.

The two governors have taken constant jabs at one another throughout their time in office, particularly during the coronavirus pandemic.

Each state had starkly differing approaches to handling the crisis, with California locking down for 15 months and Florida for just a few months, depending on the sector.
