FORT MYERS BEACH (FLV) – Gov. Ron DeSantis announced The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Direct Temporary Housing has been approved for individuals whose homes are uninhabitable due to Hurricane Ian.

The direct housing program provides up to 18 months of assistance for manufactured housing units, non motorized recreational vehicles, and other ready-to-occupy housing while people make plans for permanent housing.

Those who have already applied for FEMA assistance do not need to re-apply. Those who qualify will be contacted by FEMA.

FEMA’s direct housing program will not be able to meet every household’s needs. DeSantis says he will be announcing a state-led housing mission to provide travel trailers and recreational vehicles for impacted Floridians that are not eligible for the program.

“Our goal with these programs if for is for their own property if they so choose, while repairs to their homes are performed. These communities have been through a lot and the recovery process, as we know, can be difficult,” he said.

“We know many folks want to be where their home is, that not only gives them more peace of mind, it’s more effective for the recovery process as well.”

DeSantis previously celebrated the Florida Disaster Fund raising more than $50 million to help Hurricane Ian victims Tuesday.

The Florida Disaster Fund is the State of Florida’s official private fund established to assist Florida’s communities as they respond to and recover during times of emergency or disaster.

The governor has held several press conferences announcing different ways the administration would help disperse the money.
