FORT MYERS BEACH (FLV) – Gov. Ron DeSantis said Wednesday his staff will look into ways to prevent kids from being exposed to drag shows after a video surfaced from Dallas, Texas showing a provocative dancer at a child drag show.

That video led to a Texas lawmaker proposing legislation to ban minors from attending drag shows in the state.

“You had these very young kids, they must have been like 9 or 10 years old, at a quote drag show where they were putting money in the underwear,” DeSantis said. “That is totally inappropriate. That is not something children should be exposed to and so we may have the ability to deal with that if something like that happens.”

DeSantis said his staff will look into current child protective statues on the books.

“So we’re going to look to see what could be done under existing statutes,” DeSantis said. “But I do think targeting these kids with all this stuff, you know, it used to be kids would be off limits.”

Republican State Rep. Anthony Sabatini announced Tuesday he would propose legislation to penalize adults who bring children to drag shows.

Sabatini’s announcement came after an event called “Pride on the Block: Drag Show for Kids!” was advertised for West Palm Beach on June 4th.

DeSantis said Wednesday he pushed for the Parental Rights in Education Act to stop students from being exposed to gender ideology at a young age. The Parental Rights in Education Act bans discussions and teachings about gender and sexual identity in grades K-3. Left-wing activists have dubbed it “Don’t Say Gay.”

“There’s a movement to inject these things like gender ideology in elementary schools even and my view is, our schools need to be teaching these kids to read and write and add and subtract,” DeSantis said.
