MARCO ISLAND, Fla. – Gov. Ron DeSantis recommended setting aside $1 million for potential litigation expenses following Florida State University controversially not being chosen to compete in the College Football Playoff.

“We’re setting aside a million dollars for any litigation expenses that may be caused as a result of this really, really poor decision by the College Football Playoff – to exclude an undefeated team who won a big Power Five conference championship,” DeSantis said during a speech on his budget recommendations for fiscal year 2024-2025.

“It’s unfortunate that we have to even do that, but we are going to put aside a million dollars and let the chips fall where they may on that,” he said.

The governor added that although he didn’t go to any of the Florida universities, he just wants the state to get back to where University of Miami, University of Florida and Florida State University were “always competing for the national championship.”

The conflicting situation began Sunday when University of Alabama was chosen by the College Football Playoff Selection Committee as the fourth seed team in the college football playoffs rather than Florida State. Alabama suffered one loss in the season while Florida State remained undefeated.

Other Florida politicians, including U.S. Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., and former President Donald Trump, called out the selection committee and spoke in solidarity with Florida State.

“I am demanding answers and transparency from the @CFBPlayoff Selection Committee following its unprecedented exclusion of @FSUFootball from the playoffs,” Scott said.

“Florida State was treated very badly by the ‘Committee,’” Trump said. “They become the first Power Five team to be left out of the College Football Playoffs.”

“Really bad lobbying effort…Lets blame DeSanctimonous!” he said.
