WASHINGTON, D.C. – Florida Republican Rep. Berny Jacques of Seminole blasted Vice President Kamala Harris for having a gas stove, as seen in a photo on Thanksgiving.

Some Democratic officials have targeted gas stoves for potential regulation and restrictions.

“Meanwhile they want you to give up your gas stoves, while they live it up with theirs,” Jacques said. “Friendly Reminder: not only will gas stoves remain legal in Florida, we also made them tax free!”

Gov. Ron DeSantis and Florida Republicans have been pushing back on any potential gas stove regulations.

New York recently banned gas stoves in most new buildings.

In contrast, DeSantis signed a law this year that protected the appliances from government interference.

“You’re not taking our gas stoves away from us, that is your choice and I know many people who cook a lot do not want to part with their gas stoves and so, we’re gonna stand up for that,” DeSantis said in January.

Rep. James Buchanan, R-Osprey, and Sen. Jay Collins, R-Tampa, sponsored the legislation.

DeSantis also signed a bill into law this year that enacted a tax break for gas stoves.

The tax holiday began July 1 and run through June 30, 2024. It was included as part of the state’s budget.

The White House said in January that President Joe Biden does not support banning gas stoves.
