WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., filed H.R. 6118 to cease funding to the United Nations Human Rights Council until the United Nations officially condemns Hamas’ attacks on Israel.

“I’ve launched a bipartisan effort to defund the UN human rights council,” Luna said on social media. “Time to stop our tax dollars from going to an org that has countries sitting on its council GUILTY of human rights abuses.”

The bill, also known as the Stand with Israel Act, is a bipartisan piece of legislation that 15 other members of Congress joined in co-sponsoring.

Luna said in a press release that it “should not be a heavy lift” for the United Nations to craft a resolution condemning Hamas’ attacks on Israel.

“The United States should not fund the UN Human Rights Council until it stops targeting our closest ally,” Luna said. “The UN must unequivocally condemn Hamas’s utter disregard for human life and the terror they are inflicting on Israelis and the innocent Palestinians they use as human shields.”

“Until this institution can defend objective human rights, not subjective ideological bias, it is a scourge to the values it claims to champion,” she said.

“The hypocrisy in all of this is while the UNHRC lectures Israel on defense, China (one of their HRC members) is actively putting Muslims in concentration camps,” the congresswoman added. “It’s time they save the world their virtue-signaling and we defund them.”

The other members of Congress who have signed on to co-sponsor the bill are Brian Babin, R-Texas, Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., Josh Brecheen, R-Okla., Eric Burlison, R-Mo., John Curtis R-Utah, Lance Gooden, R-Texas, Nicole Malliotakis, R-N.Y., Mary Miller, R-Ill., Jared Moskowitz, D-Fla., Andy Ogles R-Tenn., George Santos R-N.Y., Victoria Spartz R-Ind., Greg Steube R-Fla., Jeff Van Drew, R-N.J., and Randy Weber, R-Texas.

“It should not be hard to unequivocally reject and condemn terrorism, but that is unfortunately where the United Nations currently stands,” Brecheen said. “We should not be giving a dime to the United Nations Human Rights Council until the UN condemns Hamas for its heinous attack on Israel earlier this month.”

“Nearly every single UN Security Council member chose to approve a Resolution that did not mention Israel’s right to self-defense. Supporting Israel should be the easy part,” Ogles said. “I am thankful to Congresswoman Luna for leading the charge to withhold funding to the UNHRC until it successfully passes a resolution denouncing the evil actions of Hamas terrorists.”

Weber said it was “reprehensible” that the United Nations intended to promote and protect all human rights around the globe, yet they “can’t muster the decency to denounce one of the most egregious genocidal terror organizations.”

“The horrors perpetrated by Hamas in killing thousands of Israelis are the definition of a blatant attack on human rights,” he said. “Still, the historically anti-Semitic UN ‘human rights’ Council continues to prove that it is utterly useless, and it must be defunded.”
