Surgeon General Ladapo Encourages Floridians to Get Sunlight, Vitamin D

TALLAHASSEE (FLV) – Continuing state public health messaging centered around diet and exercise, Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo told Floridians to get outdoors and “recharge with some Florida sun & vitamin D!”

In a Sunday morning video, the surgeon general is seen ziplining in the woods.

“We got out of the house for an outdoor adventure with the kids and their friends, and who says grownups shouldn’t join the fun. Here’s your weekend reminder to get outside and recharge with some Florida sun & vitamin D! #HealthierYouFL,” he tweeted.

Ladapo’s video is not the first instance of his promoting daily health habits surrounding diet and exercise. In early December, he promoted self-growing foods like bananas for a healthy diet.

“I love fruit, and bananas are some of my favorite. They’re nutritious and a great source of energy, and in Florida, you can grow them yourself! Especially if you have a green thumb… Thank you, Brianna. #HealthierYouFL,” he said.

Christina Pushaw, who was the Rapid Response Director for Gov. Ron DeSantis’ 2022 campaign, said it’s “great to live in a state where government officials suggest growing our own healthy food.”

Late November after Thanksgiving, Ladapo urged Floridians to take control of their health with an exercise routine. He said he likes to wake up in the morning and either jog or swim.

“How do you get moving after a holiday? A morning run with a solid playlist gets me back on track. Good for the mind, body, and soul,” he said, releasing a video of him running on a treadmill.

Previously, Ladapo uploaded a similar video, promoting a daily exercise routine and healthy living depicting him swimming laps.

Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed Dr. Joseph A. Ladapo as Florida Surgeon General and Secretary of the Florida Department of Health in September of 2021.
