TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (FLV) – Floridians will soon be able to take advantage of a two-week Back to School Sales Tax Holiday, a measure praised by Rep. Tom Leek, R-Ormond Beach.

Leek, the House Appropriations Committee Chairman, emphasized the Legislature’s commitment to bolstering reserves while also returning money to taxpayers whenever possible.

“Our aim is to prioritize the interests of Floridians and return money to taxpayers whenever possible,” Leek said. “Families face inflation and affordability issues, and it’s crucial that we offer them opportunities to ease their financial burden.”

The Back to School Sales Tax Holiday will take place over two weeks, commencing from July 24 and ending on Aug. 6.

Additionally, another two-week Back to School Sales Tax Holiday is scheduled before the spring semester, from Jan. 1 to Jan. 14, 2024.

Leek expressed pride in the tax relief offered to Floridians.

“By putting money back into parents’ pockets, we provide them with vital support and empower them to make decisions that benefit their families,” Leek said.

During these tax holidays, Florida families are expected to save over $160.6 million on various items, such as personal computers and accessories up to $1,500, clothing up to $100, school supplies up to $50, and learning aides and jigsaw puzzles up to $30.

“The newly extended Back to School Sales Tax Holiday is a perfect example of the Florida Legislature’s commitment to families,” Leek said. “Not only are we putting money back in parents’ pockets, but we’re doing it in a thoughtful, timely manner that will help improve their children’s educational experiences.”
