Charlotte County Sheriff’s Deputy Fatally Struck by Vehicle During Traffic Stop

CHARLOTTE COUNTY (FLV) – Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell confirmed that Deputy Christopher Taylor died after being struck by a car while conducting a traffic stop on I-75 in Charlotte County.

Prummell says the deputy was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

“Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers,” Prummell said.

Attorney General Ashley Moody said, “Heartbreaking news out of Charlotte County leading into the holidays. Please keep this deputy’s family, the @CCSOFLSheriff’s office and our entire law enforcement community in your prayers.”

Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis also issued condolences saying, “Absolutely tragic news out of Charlotte County. Another awful reminder that selfless service doesn’t come without immense sacrifice. My thoughts are with the deputy’s loved ones and the ⁦@CCSOFLSheriff⁩ family during this difficult time.”

The Florida Police Benevolent Association tweeted, “Sending so much love and healing to you all! Our most sincere condolences for your loss.”

News outlets are reporting that a 30-year-old was placed under arrest for DUI manslaughter and is being booked in the Charlotte County Jail.
