TALLAHASSEE (FLV) – Gov. Ron DeSantis said Israel’s decision to move the U.S. Headquarters of its national airline, El Al, from New York City to Broward County is an example of Florida’s successful leadership.

“Israel’s decision to move El Al airlines from New York City to South Florida is the latest example of Florida’s leadership in business expansion and international travel,” DeSantis said. “We are proud to be the hub for international tourism.”

The airline’s headquarters will relocate to Margate in Broward county. Airline officials reportedly made the decision to relocate to South Florida after vetting the area for schools, religious facilities, and the accessibility to aviation industry talent.

“I sat in on the meetings. I watched this morph into an amazing dialogue and partnership,” Broward County Major Michael Udine said. “The El Al people really loved what we had to offer.”

Florida has become a major international hub. The sunshine state registered almost 45% of the US market share for international tourism.

“So not only is this the highest market share in the country, it’s a higher market share than any state has ever recorded,” DeSantis said in May. “I think that shows these foreign travelers, okay, where are they going. They’re overwhelmingly wanting to come and vacation in Florida. And so we’re proud of that.”
