DeSantis Endorses State Rep. Jay Trumbull in Race for Senate District 2

TALLAHASSEE (FLV) – Gov. Ron DeSantis endorsed State Rep. Jay Trumbull, R-Panama City, in the Senate race for District 2 Monday.

“Jay Trumbull has been a strong ally for my agenda in the Legislature and a great champion for the people of NW Florida,” DeSantis said on Twitter.

Republican Senator George Gainer announced he would not seek reelection for District 2.

“Thanks to @SenatorGainer for years of outstanding service to the people of NW Florida. From business to politics, George Gainer has made big contributions to our state. Fair Winds and Following Seas!” DeSantis said.

Trumbull carried the sweeping property insurance reforms through the Florida House during the May special session. He also serves on the chair of the House Appropriations Committee.

“@SenatorGainer leaves big shoes to fill, but I believe Jay will be a great Senator and I am happy to support him for Senate District 2,” DeSantis said.
