MIAMI (FCV) – Governor Ron DeSantis made a campaign stop with Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter Jorge Masvidal where over 500 supporters attended the “GRD x Masvidal” event.

Masvidal has been competing professionally since 2003 – starting at the age of 18.

At the campaign event, DeSantis went after the Biden Administration for “sky-high gas prices” and their reluctance to “use American energy.”

“When you make our working folks suffer with sky-high gas prices because you aren’t willing to use American energy and instead you shut down pipelines and other types of exportation and you let people suffer, you are Brandon to me. If you want to be Biden, stand up and be a leader,” he said.

On the Walt Disney Company’s recent opposition to H.B. 1557, vowing to have it repealed, DeSantis exclaimed that he is not “backing down.”

“I don’t care what the media says. I don’t care what Walt Disney Company says. Here I stand. Do you see me backing down? No way!,” he said.

“It’s important for companies like Disney to know. I don’t know how it’s been in the past in Florida, but I can tell you, with this sheriff in town you do not run the state of Florida. We are running this state with the best interest of the people of this state in mind.”

DeSantis emphasized that those who fled communist countries like Cuba and Venezuela “know freedom is nothing to be taken for granted.”

“We have the opportunity in 2022 to keep this state free. Not just in the immediate future, but I think this is a generational election.”

Masvidal is a supporter of DeSantis, saying that “This guy fights for you”:

“Thank goodness for our governor! He has the most common sense… This guy fights for you, fights for me, fights for my kids, fights for my freedom…We have got to show out in this election stronger than ever and harder than ever,” he said.

“I know when we need to fight. I know what it takes to fight, and not just in the ring, we need to fight for our freedoms and the things that make us a great society… the things that make us the greatest country.”

The appearance is one of the first major campaign stops of the 2022 Election for the Florida Governor.
