TALLAHASSEE (FLV) – A report from The New Yorker detailed Gov. Ron DeSantis’ drive to champion the “Stop WOKE Act” to the finish line.

The “Stop WOKE Act” went into effect Friday and bans educators and workplace employers from teaching Floridians that their “moral character” is determined by race, sex, or national origin.

The New Yorker’s Story retells conservative activist Christopher Rufo’s interactions with the Governor the day DeSantis would publicly sign the “Stop WOKE Act.”

“He shows up to the tarmac at 6:30 a.m. with a Red Bull energy drink, ready to roll through the policy papers,” Rufo told the outlet.

The story said Rufo was “particularly taken” by how personally invested DeSantis was in the legislation. “It’s driven by him” and not a bill that came from grassroots activists or the governor’s advisers, Rufo said. Rufo has helped advise the governor on limiting teachings of CRT in classrooms.

“No taxpayer dollars should be used to teach our kids to hate our country or hate each other,” DeSantis remarked when proposing the legislation.

“We must protect Florida workers against the hostile work environment that is created when large corporations force their employees to endure CRT-inspired ‘training’ and indoctrination.”

For example, DeSantis said the law would make Disney’s “white privilege checklist” illegal. The Walt Disney Company requires employees to complete a “white privilege checklist.”

“Encouraged white employees to do a white privilege checklist and a white fragility psychological test. These tests are not psychological tests in a legitimate sense but they automatically assume your guilt,” Rufo said at the bill signing ceremony.

On Monday, a federal judge reportedly did not block the act from going into effect after a group of teachers and attorneys requested a temporary injunction.

Walker said the plaintiffs had not shown injury-related proof needed to establish standing. Essentially, the teachers did not show how the new law would directly injure them. He said he was not “determining whether the challenged regulations are constitutional, morally correct or good policy.”
