Florida man has a revolver-shaped swimming pool

ODESSA, Fla. (FLV) – A Florida man has gone viral for having a backyard swimming pool in the shape of a revolver.

Louis Minardi, 67, has a custom-built pool shaped like a six-shooter revolver, Fresh Take Florida reported.

“Neighbors that have bought houses around here have all come by,” Minardi said. “They’re all, ‘Is this guy a whack job?'”

Minardi told Fresh Take that the idea came from his friend, pool contractor Albert Jones III of Tampa, who was “bored building more traditionally shaped pools.”

“You’re going to think I’m crazy,” Jones said, according to Minardi.

He said Jones pitched a pool design modeled after a Ruger Blackhawk, a 1950s-era, Western-style revolver.

Minardi was reluctant at first, but eventually approved the design, given it remained within the budget.

The pool has detailed tiles on the bottom to distinguish the gun’s individual components, like the trigger and ammunition chamber. A jacuzzi was installed in the hammer. 

In 1976, Minardi opened a gunsmithing business with his brother and grew up hunting with friends.

When it comes to owning a gun, Minardi said education is important. He did not allow his children and grandchildren to use a gun unless they had proper training.

“If you’re qualified, mentally able to have one and protect yourself, I think you ought to have one if you want one, whether you keep it at home or you carry it with you,” Minardi said.

“But it’s like everything. It’s educating. It’s educating the people about the guns, how they work,” he explained.
