Miami Hosting ‘Gun Buyback Program’ to ‘Support Ukraine’ and ‘Take Guns Off the Streets’
MIAMI (FLV) – Through Saturday, August 27, Miami is hosting a “gun buyback” program where residents can “turn in” firearms for gift cards.
“The City of Miami has set up a voluntary gun buyback program to assist in providing safety and defense equipment to Ukraine,” they say.
The city says from 10:00 A.M. through 2:00 P.M. Saturday, those who turn in various types of firearms can receive up to $150 gift cards per turn-in.
A $50 gift card will be given for each firearm, a $100 gift card for a shotgun or rifle, and a $150 gift card for a “high powered rifle” such as an AR-15 or AK-47, the city says.
Miami notes that “homemade” or “replica style firearms” will not be permitted, and neither will BB guns or airsoft guns qualify for a gift card. Residents can still turn them in.
The buyback is officially being hosted by the Miami Police Department.
Miami’s website has a “Guns 4 Ukraine” page where they say donations from residents will be used “to assist the Ukraine support efforts.”
According to the U.S. Department of Defense, the U.S. has already given over $13.5 billion in “security assistance” to Ukraine.
