TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The co-founder of the parental rights group Moms for Liberty was appointed by Gov. Ron DeSantis to the Florida Commission on Ethics Wednesday.

“The Florida Ethics Commission is charged with serving as the guardian of the standards of conduct for public officers and employees as well as safeguarding public trust. It will be a privilege to serve the state I love as a member of this commission,” Descovich said on social media.

Tina Descovich co-founded the nonprofit Moms for Liberty, which was founded in 2021 by parents and former school board members.

The group has championed parental rights efforts including endeavors to crack down on sexually inappropriate books in schools.

Descovich also was a former Brevard County school board member who was later selected to serve as the vice chairman and chairman.

The former school board member also served as the 2018 president of The Florida Coalition of School Board Members, according to her bio.

“She is passionate about America and is dedicated to protecting liberty and freedom for the future of all children,” Descovich’s biography said.

The governor also announced the appointment of Luis Fuste to the commission Wednesday. Fuste is an attorney and veteran of the United States Marine Corps Reserve. He serves on the board of Little Bear Big Heart, Inc., Somerset Virtual Academy, and Doral College.

Fuste and Descovich’s appointment are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.

The Florida Commission on Ethics is composed of nine members with five of them appointed by the governor. The commission investigates complaints alleging breach of the public trust by public officers and employees.

The commission can investigate complaints alleging possible violations of the Code of Ethics for public officers and employees.

Tiffany Justice and Descovich are co-founders of Moms for Liberty.

Republican presidential candidates, including former President Donald Trump and Gov. Ron DeSantis, have spoken at the nonprofit’s events.

Moms for Liberty has chapters across the country. Most recently in Indian River County, the group lined up parents to speak against sexual books in schools at the school board meeting. The parents were shut down from reading explicit materials aloud, therefore, leading to the removal of the books following a new Florida law.

The group’s national attention has led to attacks from left-wing groups including the Southern Poverty Law Center and national media outlets.
