MIAMI (FLV) – State Sen. Annette Taddeo, a Democrat candidate for Congress, defended attending an event where the Democratic Socialists of America was present.

In an interview with WPLG, Taddeo was asked about a photograph that showed her speaking at an event with representatives from the socialist party.

Taddeo said she was at an NAACP meeting with several groups.

“So you can sit there and criticize that certain people, it’s a free country. Other people can come in but I am the one who has been criticizing anyone that I believe is against our community, whether it’s a president of my own party, whether it’s any of the extremists on either side of the aisle,” Taddeo said.

“Because what we don’t need is this name calling and using and scaring our voters. They know me. This is the reason why this is not working.”

A 2018 instagram post from the Miami-Dade County chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America thanks Taddeo for “coming through to support.”
