TAMPA, Fla. (FLV) – Gov. Ron DeSantis has earned the endorsement of the Tampa Bay Young Republicans, who arrived at their decision via a survey.

According to the group, DeSantis achieved 52% support in the survey of 476 “Tampa Young Republicans” aged 18-40.

In comparison, former President Donald Trump achieved 45%.

“As the second largest YR club in the country, the TBYR is proud to be the first GOP organization to formally endorse Ron DeSantis for President,” the group’s executive board said. “That being [said], we recognize the immense popularity of both leading candidates as seen on our survey.”

The board said they would “fully support” Trump if he is the nominee.

“Our hope is that Republicans can respect each other’s opinions and rally against Joe Biden his ballot excavation operation in the general,” they continued.

The two top candidates both received high marks in approval rating among those surveyed, DeSantis achieving 97% and Trump achieving 95%.

Another question asked in the survey was confidence in which party – Republican or Democratic – will win the 2024 election.

66% were confident in the Republicans while 34% were confident in the Democrats, with President Joe Biden likely to be nominated by his party.

Full results of the poll can be found here.
