NEW YORK (FLV) – Erin Perrine, communications director for pro-Gov. Ron DeSantis super PAC Never Back Down, argued the governor is more electable than former President Donald Trump and pointed to 2020 as evidence.

“This has to do with the future of the party and our ability to win in November 2024,” Perrine said on Fox News.

“There’s a very clear through line right now in polling – a few outliers – but DeSantis beats Biden and Biden beats Trump,” she argued.

Both Trump and DeSantis supporters have been pointing to national and state polls to make an argument for electability.

For example, one recent poll gave Trump a handy 7-point lead over President Joe Biden nationally.

Another poll, conducted in pivotal swing states like Georgia Arizona, handed the Florida governor a lead over Biden, but showed Trump trailing the current president.

“If Republicans want to get this country back on track, economically, socially, the ability for tomorrow to be a better day, they’re not going to get that by putting up the same fight we lost in 2020,” Perrine continued.

“It means a new direction, and that is showing that Ron DeSantis – this is a two man race – he’s the person to back in this race,” she said.

Arguments about electability are set to be front-and-center as DeSantis is set to potentially announce this week.

DeSantis recently indicated he believes only himself and Biden “have a chance to get elected president,” pointing to “all the data in the swing states,” where American elections are effectively won and lost.

DeSantis also reportedly said that the “corporate media wants Trump to be the nominee” for Republicans in 2024.

Earlier Monday, the former president said DeSantis is the unelectable candidate – not Trump.

“[DeSantis] is totally unelectable,” he said.

The 2024 field continues to grow on the Republican side, with more expected to announce in the coming weeks, including a potential announcement from DeSantis this coming week.
