LAKE COUNTY (FLV) – A resolution put forward by Lake County Republican Party Chair Anthony Sabatini to endorse Donald Trump for president in 2024 did not receive enough votes to pass at the party’s Tuesday meeting, Florida’s Voice has learned.

This is the second loss for the the newly-elected chairman in a matter of a week.

On Jan. 20, Sabatini did not have enough support for Republican Party of Florida executive committee members to formally cast a “no-confidence” vote regarding Ronna McDaniel as RNC Chair. In December, Sabatini had 30 members of the executive committee sign onto his petition against McDaniel to require the chairman call a special meeting.

He recently made headlines after photos surfaced of him leading protests years ago with a socialist group and advocating that college tuition was a “right.” The 34-year-old previously was a Democrat during his college years at the University of Florida.

Sabatini is a former Florida House member who served as a Republican in office from 2018 to 2022.

In his previous position as a state representative, Sabatini voted against the budget to remove illegal immigrants from Florida and money for securing elections.

He was the only Republican to vote against the state legislature’s budget that Gov. Ron DeSantis later signed after making changes.

Sabatini lost the Florida’s 7th Congressional District race to Cory Mills in the August primary election.
