FORT LAUDERDALE (FLV) – Democrat gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist held a press conference in Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday to announce the campaign’s “Choice Day of Action.”

Crist says “Choice Day of Action” is focused on “one thing only – holding Ron DeSantis accountable for his attacks on a women’s right to choose.”

“Just as it sounds, ‘Choice Day of Action’ is about speaking up, getting loud, and making sure the people of Florida send a clear message to DeSantis – that we are going to fight like hell to put an end to your attacks against women,” Crist said.

Crist says they will be hosting events across Florida to “make sure everyone knows how radical Ron [DeSantis] is.”

If elected in November, Crist says he will sign an executive order on day one to protect a women’s right to choose.

“With Roe v. Wade gone, everyone here knows that we’re in the fight of our lives to protect a women’s right to choose – but today we’re here to fight,” Crist said.

“Ron DeSantis is a radical, anti-choice governor who has already signed an abortion ban into place, one that does not include exceptions even for rape or incest, but we can’t and won’t let that happen.”

Gov. Ron DeSantis previously signed a bill that would ban most abortions after 15 weeks in Florida.

“This is a time where these babies have beating hearts. They can move. They can taste,” DeSantis said. “We are here today to protect life. We are here today to defend those who can’t defend themselves.”

After the United States Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey in a 6-3 decision in June, DeSantis vowed that the Sunshine State would “expand pro-life protections.” Overturning Roe gives states stronger latitude on restricting abortion.
