BURBANK (FLV) – The Walt Disney Company will strip away the name “Fairy Godmother” for a ‘gender neutral’ name.

Cast members originally called “Fairy Godmothers in training” will now be called “Fairy God Mother’s Apprentices,'” according to third-party Disney blog Streaming the Magic.

“This way cast members that might not identify as female can still be part of the process to dress up & style the children without having to refer to themselves as a female Disney character,” the blog said.

Those cast members usually work at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique at Disney Parks. The boutique allows for children to get dressed as their favorite Disney characters.

Disney has made changes in the last years in the name of inclusivity. For instance, last summer Disney omitted the use of “ladies and gentleman, boys and girls.”

Gov. Ron DeSantis has taken aim at Disney for its “woke” policies. The company came under fire from Florida Republicans when Disney vowed to repeal the “Parental Rights in Education” law, which Democrats call “Don’t Say Gay.”

The new law prohibits teachers from teaching K-3 grade students about gender identity and sexual orientation. Disney, which has been a political powerhouse in Florida, said they would work to repeal the legislation.

Governor DeSantis called the rhetoric a way to “attack” parents from being involved in the child’s education.

“I told them, I said, you’re nuts to get involved in this,” he explained July 15. “I was like, are you kidding me? Parents with Kids. That’s your number one audience.”

The Florida legislature passed legislation to strip Disney of its “special privileges” through a special district. The Walt Disney Company’s Reedy Creek Independent District gives the company self-governing powers on things like building codes, zoning and electricity. DeSantis signed legislation that dismantles six independent special districts, including Reedy Creek.
