TALLAHASSEE (FLV) – Gov. Ron DeSantis had plenty of “mic drop” moments in 2022. Here’s Florida’s Voice’s top picks:

Teams Cross Rebuilt Sanibel Causeway After Hurricane Ian: “There they go!”

“There you go guys. Right behind us. Ahead of schedule. It was supposed to be 3 o’clock today they thought they’d get it.”

Gov. Ron DeSantis

The DeSantis Administration quickly responded to the destruction by Hurricane Ian. The administration had the demolished Sanibel Causeway bridge fixed within three weeks.

Rescue crews began crossing the bridge during the governor’s press conference.

“Right behind us. Ahead of schedule!” DeSantis remarked during a press conference as crews began crossing the bridge to help residents.

“You’re damn right I overruled them on that”

They wanted to force mandates, they wanted to keep the kids locked out of school- you’re damn right I overruled them on that.

Gov. Ron DeSantis

As the White House continued to defend vaccine mandates through the end of 2022, DeSantis’ office reminded people that in Florida, they “never saw the light of day.” The DeSantis administration has stood firmly against vaccine mandates. In 2021, the governor signed legislation to ban vaccine passports.

“Florida is where WOKE goes to die”

“The state of Florida – is the state – is the place – where woke goes to die.”

Gov. Ron DeSantis

On multiple occasions, DeSantis said Florida is where “woke” goes to die. He has fought diligently against Critical Race Theory, kids being exposed to sexual ideology, and fought “woke” ideology in both schools and corporations.

Charlie Crist is “the only worn out, old donkey I’m looking to put out to pasture”

The only worn out, old donkey I’m looking to put out to pasture is Charlie Crist.

Gov. Ron DeSantis

During the 2022 Gubernatorial Debate, Democrat Charlie Crist pressed DeSantis on if he plans to run for President in 2024. DeSantis shut him down by telling him the only “donkey” he is looking to put out to pasture is Crist.

DeSantis on Dr. Anthony Fauci: “Chuck him across the Potomac”

“And I’m just sick of seeing him – I know he says he’s going to retire – someone needs to grab that little elf and chuck him across the Potomac.”

Gov. Ron DeSantis

DeSantis said Dr. Anthony Fauci is a “little elf” that needs to be chucked across the Potomac during the Florida GOP’s “Keep Florida Free” rally.

He issued fiery remarks against the newly retired Fauci.

“Joe Biden and Anthony Fauci needlessly locked people in their homes and out of their jobs, kept kids away from school, and sent tens of thousands of seniors to their deaths,” Dave Abrams, campaign spokesperson, said. “Those are the physical assaults they ought to be talking about from the podium.”

“It’s why people don’t trust people like you”

REPORTER QUESTION: “I want to ask about [The parental Rights in Education Act], what critics call the “Don’t Say Gay Bill-,”

DESANTIS: “Does it say that in the bill?… The idea that you wouldn’t be honest about that and tell people what it actually says – it’s why people don’t trust people like you because you peddle false narratives.”

DeSantis hammered reporter Evan Donovan for naming the Parental Rights in Education Act “Don’t Say Gay.” The new law bans educators from teaching K-3 graders about gender ideology and sexual orientation.

Biden is a “deer in headlights”

When you think about President Reagan you think about Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall! When I think of Biden, I think of him staring into a teleprompter like a deer in [the] headlights – reading, ‘End of quote, repeat the line.‘”

Gov. Ron DeSantis

During a Turning Point Action speech, DeSantis referred to a recent speech where President Joe Biden had difficulty reading a teleprompter. He mistakenly said, “end of quote, repeat the line” at the end of his speech.

Men in women’s swimming: “Total fraud and everyone knows it”

“How do you compete for three years on the men’s swimming team and then switch to the women’s and you win the championship? I’m sorry that is a total fraud and everybody knows it.”

Gov. Ron DeSantis

DeSantis is staunchly against transgender athletes competing in women’s sports. He signed a proclamation declaring Virginia swimmer and Sarasota resident Emma Weyant the “rightful winner” of the 2022 NCAA championship over transgender swimmer Lia Thomas. The Governor also signed the “Fairness in Women’s Sports Act” in 2021 that prevents a biological male from competing on a female sports team.

DeSantis on looters: “I’d drag them out by the collars”

“If I could I would take those three looters, I’d drag them out by the collars and I’d send them back to where they came from.”

Gov. Ron DeSantis

DeSantis had strong words for three reportedly illegal immigrants looting in the Hurricane Ian-devastated Lee County area. Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno announced that some looters that were arrested are in the country illegally.

“One of the most disgusting speeches an American president has ever given”

“I thought it was one of the most disgusting speeches an American president has ever given – he ran as being a unifier and he’s basically saying to the vast majority of the country that disapproves of him that they’re effectively a threat to the republic.”

Gov. Ron DeSantis

DeSantis commented on Fox News that Biden’s speech to the American people was “disgusting.” During the speech, Biden said “Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our Republic […] MAGA Republicans do not respect the Constitution. They do not believe in the rule of the law. They do not recognize the will of the people. They refuse to accept the results of a free election.”

Pelosi is a “great example of why we need term limits”

“[Speaker Nancy] Pelosi’s been in office for 30-some years and it just keeps going up. You know, she’s a great example of why we need term limits for members of Congress.”

Gov. Ron DeSantis

DeSantis announced a new lawsuit the state is filing against the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) because of the length of time – nearly 2 years – it has taken them to still have not yet respond to a plan to lower drug prices for Floridians.

He slammed the U.S. federal government – particularly Congress – for the price of drugs increasing under their watch for years.

“You do need to be able to do well in order to research and develop and all that stuff… I think that can be done in a way that’s not putting almost the entire burden of that on American consumers and patients and allowing other folks to do less,” he said. “I hope there will be an interest in looking at this in the Congress takes in.”
